Maybe your husbands family members really admire your LV's but use the wrong way of expressing themselves. Some families are like that...my mother is like that. I just let things slide when she makes comments. You can apologize OR the next time you are around them bring up the topic of LV and make out like you really like the other family members bag and that you are glad to see they are carrying a diff line or style. Maybe you can hunt for a pre-loved beige? A gorgeous one was just sold on one of the pre-loved sites.....I can't remember which one. Your reason is the main reason I don't want to spend the money -2K is one thing but 4K is a "little" tough to swallow--on a bag I'll only use on the weekends/summers.
